*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 08/13/2021
Have a creative summer at Cranbrook Art Museum! Create Camps inspire imagination, critical thinking, and the handmade. Explore incredible works of art, architecture, and design—and make great memories and amazing creations!

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Create Projects in an Open, Fun Environment

Create Campers use design-thinking processes to explore the fields of art, architecture, and design. Our camps introduce a variety of materials and concepts—evoking curiosity and honing critical thinking—while encouraging individual creativity and self-expression.  Create Camps teach kids how to look at, talk about, and create art!

Look at Artwork in the Museum

Create Camps look at art, architecture, and design objects in our galleries–and in our vaults!  All camps include behind-the-scenes vault experiences to look, listen, and learn about artworks–to inspire art-making in the studios! We’ll look at artwork (in-person or online) in the Museum’s galleries and vaults.

Learn from Teaching Artists

Our Teaching Artists are experienced artists, architects, and designers!  Teaching Artists connect the processes and concepts behind artwork in the museum with age-appropriate projects and techniques.

COVID-19 UPDATE

At a minimum, Cranbrook’s COVID-related protocols will comply with applicable State of Michigan mandates and align with Oakland Country Health Division and American Camp Association.  As we progress through the pandemic and towards the summer season, we may alter, cancel, or replace certain aspects of camp. If we do, this web page will be updated and registrants will be notified by email.  Depending on the severity of a change, we may offer registrants a full refund should the adjustment not suit their interest.  Otherwise, our regular cancellation policy remains in effect.  You may view a summary of the policy in the Tuition & Fees section below or read the full policy in the Enrollment Agreement during the registration process.

CREATE CAMPS

For Summer 2021, Cranbrook Art Museum is planning both IN-PERSON and ONLINE Create Camps to accommodate what works best for you!

ONLINE Create Camps (Grades 2-5)

GRADES: ONLINE Create Camps are for students entering 2nd through 5th grade in Fall 2021.

SCHEDULE: 9am–3pm daily, Monday-Friday

What your child will need to participate:

    • Internet access
    • An internet-connected device with audio and video (i.e. computer or tablet)
    • A ZOOM username and password — sign up for a FREE account at zoom.us
    • A space to create! Kitchen tables work great as they’re close to a sink and big enough to have an electronic device and a space to work.
    • Art Kit!  Curbside pick-up in the Art Museum parking lot, Thursdays from 5-7 pm or Saturdays from 12-2 pm, prior to the start of camp each week.

ART KITS: Making It Easy for You

Our Art Kits come with NEW art making materials for each day of the camp.  Unlike traditional camps, our Art Kits mean that campers have the supplies to make more art when class (and camp!) is over. Materials for each day are clearly labeled and ready for campers.  Art Kits are different each week!  Curbside pick-up in the Art Museum parking lot, Thursdays from 5-7 pm or Saturdays from 12-2 pm, prior to the start of camp each week.  Zooming in from afar?  We can ship Art Kits if necessary.

ZOOM CAMPS: It’s for the Camper

Our goal is to have materials clearly organized and ready, so campers can be independent learners. Of course, campers may need some assistance, but our goal is to engage campers with artwork and hands-on activities that excite them about Online Create Camps.
