A Summer Extravaganza of Living History — MUST-SEE Daily Activities Greenfield Village is full of exhibitions, events, drama, sports, games and historic rides enhanced by music, food and historic entertainments of all kinds.

DRAMATIC PRESENTATIONS

The Disagreeable Customer 
(General Store)
Shopkeeper J.R. Jones has his hands full in this charming 10-minute show as he waits on pompous Mrs. Cleveland, who is "rusticating" in  Waterford away from the hustle and bustle of her hometown, Detroit.

Edison's Light Fantastic
(Menlo Park Yard)
Meet Thomas Edison in this 15-minute play and hear about one of his most "electrifying" inventions!  This one-man show gives a glimpse into the inspiring life, work and mind of Thomas Edison. Edison speaks to a group of reporters visiting his complex on the day after his first public demonstration of the world’s first practical incandescent light bulb on Dec. 31, 1879.

Home from Kitty Hawk
(Wright Home)
Experience the thrill of the Wright brothers’ first flight as they take you back to that amazing and inspiring day in this 20-minute play. Fly back in time with Orville, Wilbur, and their sister, Katharine, as they take you on a dramatic journey through their experiments, struggles, and joys. The audience joins them on December 23, 1903 just after the brothers return home from Kitty Hawk. They recount their amazing and inspiring first flights that made history on December 17 of that year and forever changed the world.

How I Got Over 
(Susquehanna Plantation)
Experience inspiring stories, songs and slave narratives in this powerful 20-minute show. Music played a major role in the struggle of enslaved Africans to survive the oppression they met on plantations like Susquehanna Plantation. The reenactment of a "Buh Rabbit" tale told in verse is a favorite with our visitors. This dramatic presentation shares inspirational stories of endurance and empowerment through slave narratives left behind, and through the hopeful music and storytelling that sustained them as they hoped for freedom.

Laura’s Little Town
(Near Scotch Settlement School) 
Meet young Laura Ingalls before she became a teacher in this 15-minute show celebratingLittle Town on the Prairie. Hear some of Laura’s favorite stories about her family’s time in DeSmet, South Dakota including the return of Nellie Oleson and the first time she met Almanzo Wilder.

Simply Gershwin
(Town Hall)
Celebrate the beloved music of George and Ira Gershwin in this lively 30-minute music, dance, and comedy revue performed by four talented singers/actors and one pianist. Packed with great music, this show features song favorites like Fascinating Rhythm,Someone to Watch Over MeThey Can’t Take That Away from MeSummertime and I Got Rhythm.

Tales from Huck Finn
(Near Scotch Settlement School) 
Meet Huckleberry Finn, one of Mark Twain's most beloved characters, and hear a few of his memorable adventures (and even how Samuel Clemens chose his pseudonym Mark Twain!). Favorite scenes and escapades from 1885’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finnand 1876’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyercome alive in this high-energy 15-minute show.

Irving Berlin Medley 
(Near Scotch Settlement School )
The Greenfield Singers perform a special 15-minute medley of song favorites from a renowned musical innovator.

Model T Medley 
(Near Scotch Settlement School)
Enjoy this lively 10-minute medley of Model T songs along with a little dash of Model T humor performed by the Greenfield Singers.

Cole Porter Medley
(Town Hall)
The Greenfield Singers perform a jazzy 10-minute medley of beloved songs by an American music icon.

The Greenfield Quartet 
(Near Sir John Bennett)
The talented high tenor, tenor, baritone, and bass sing toe-tapping tunes from the 1900s through the 1930s complete with period harmonies.

The Village Trio 
(Town Hall near Dr. Howard’s Office)
The talented soprano, mezzo soprano, and alto who make up the Village Trio sing delightful songs from the 1900s through the 1930s complete with period harmonies and nostalgic dance moves.

Candlestick Making 
(Armington & Sims Machine Shop)
Adults and children 6 and older can operate a 1917 lathe to make a brass candleholder to take home.

Work with glassblowers to create your own glass flower (includes instruction, production and shipping).

See the Greenfield Village Lah-De-Dahs play by Henry Chadwick’s 1867 Base Ball Book of Reference rules. Whether playing the Nationals or a visiting club, the excitement of the game has never been greater — a full nine innings played without gloves and in a gentlemanly manner. Come cheer the clubs as they compete in America’s pastime the way it was meant to be played! HURRAH!
