Meadow Brook Writing Camps

*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 08/11/2023
Our annual Meadow Brook Writing Camps spark creativity and imagination among young writers of all ages each summer.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Each summer, Meadow Brook Hall opens the estate to aspiring student writers of all ages for the Meadow Brook Writing Camps (MBWC), hosted by the Meadow Brook Writing Project.

Participants will discover secret staircases and amazing playhouses while being challenged and inspired at creative writing workshops at the National Historic Landmark, located in Rochester on the campus of Oakland University.

Let your young writer be inspired at a Meadow Brook Writing Camp – available in-person or online.

  • Collaborative teaching teams consist of K-12 writing teachers and Oakland University faculty from the Department of Writing and Rhetoric.
  • All are alumni of Meadow Brook Writing Project’s Summer Institute, an intensive writer’s workshop for master teachers involved in the National Writing Project (NWP).
  • All youth camp teachers are involved in continuing education, including NWP conferences, publications and teacher- training workshops. Teachers are assisted by trained Meadow Brook Hall docents.
