Poolside Performances are an exploration of experimental music, movement, and mark-making. The inaugural performance, Phonosynthesis, features two musical duos — Sophiyah E. with Detroit Bureau of Sound, and 3k — delivering gentle sounds that evoke the gamut of plant life—featuring sound synthesis and live plants used as instruments amid the verdant surroundings of the Cranbrook Art Museum grounds near the Triton Pools.
3k was formed within the North End neighborhood in Detroit. The duo makes music from Submerge studios, creating an experimental concoction of organic industrial ambient music.
Detroit native, Sophiyah Elizabeth draws inspiration from the desire to raise awareness surrounding liberation and spiritual reverence. Through community advocacy and sonic productions, the singer/composer intertwines ancestral influence & multi-sensory storytelling to convey messages of empowerment.
Notorious “dude who plays the cactus”, Zac Bru is better known as Detroit Bureau of Sound, the live electronics act and sonic evangelist. Fond of avant-garde music and loud PA systems, Zac’s work is an ongoing fascination with creating 4D sound sculptures, often with modular synths and amplified plant materials.
