Build it. Code it. Bring it to life!
This Halloween, create your own talking animatronic skull using real electronics, sensors, motors, and code!
In this hands-on workshop, students will transform a 3D-printed skull into an interactive Halloween creation. Using an Arduino Nano, ultrasonic sensor, servo motor, speaker, and audio module, students will wire and program their animatronic to detect when someone approaches—and then come to life!
Students will explore how the same technologies used in robotics and animatronics work together as they build their project from the inside out. They'll connect electronic components, work with sensors and motors, experiment with code, test their creation, troubleshoot problems, and see how hardware and software combine to create an interactive experience.
Along the way, students will explore:
- Arduino and microcontrollers
- Electronic circuits and wiring
- Ultrasonic sensors and distance detection
- Servo motors and mechanical movement
- Speakers and digital audio
- Inputs and outputs
- Coding and program logic
- Testing, troubleshooting, and debugging
- How animatronics combine electronics, mechanics, and programming
By the end of the workshop, students will have created their own working talking skull animatronic.
And Yes—You Get to Take It Home!
Each participant will take home their completed animatronic skull, including the electronics inside, so the Halloween fun can continue at home.
No previous electronics, Arduino, or coding experience is required. Our instructors will guide students through the project step by step while giving them opportunities to experiment, troubleshoot, and make their creation their own.
