Young Writers Summer Camps
Lighthouse Writers Workshop
Lighthouse offers a wide array of full and half-day summer camps from June through August for young writers ages eight to 18. Whether they've got a few novels under their belt, are new but curious about poems, or are a reluctant writer, our camps offer a fun, creative, and challenging way for young people to explore and express who they are, build new friendships, and create truly beautiful works of art.

Our Clay Camp curriculum is designed to teach pottery skills and to encourage the exploration of clay as a material for design, sculpture, and expression. Each week, campers learn to throw on the wheel in the mornings. Campers learn various hand-building techniques to create stunning sculptures, tiles, or functional items in the afternoons.

With artifact explorations, hands-on experiments, behind-the-scenes adventures and more, a unique and immersive experience awaits young minds. Campers in grades 2-7 learn from innovators and inventions of the past by exploring Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village.

VR Creator: Fun with Unity and Oculus

Camp is Monday - Friday from 9 am - 3 pm during the scheduled dates. This course introduces campers to the Unity gaming engine. From installing and configuring unity to building their first game. Campers will learn how to publish their creation to IOS, Xbox, Android, PC, MacOS, and Linux! They will also get hands-on with Oculus Quest 2, learning its interface and capabilities.

Join us for a mini-monstrous journey into the Challenge Island wild!  Our adventurous STEAM Teams are on a quest to catch, collect and train all of the island's mini-monsters.  They'll visit gyms, earn badges, go on treasure hunts, and even engage in a battle or two.  With the help of their ally STEAMaroo, a clever and friendly kangaroo islandmon, our STEAM Teams will tackle an island full of engineering challenges as they evolve into true STEAM Champions.  Ready?  Let's go!
Drone Code: Programming with Python 3

Focused on data analysis and quick decision-making, campers will learn to maneuver through drone obstacle courses using the Python 3 programming language. The relationship between software and hardware becomes apparent as campers code solutions to the limitations of their environments and toolsets. With a solid foundation in Python 3, campers will be able to plot their course, code, and take off!

Various pieces will be created throughout the week which will then be shared, and discussed as a group, giving these artists the crucial experience of personal feedback.
Slimetopia 4:  Once Upon A Slime Camp

In this all-new camp, students will work in small STEAM Teams to mix up new slime classics based on children's stories like Alice's Unbirthday Cake Slime, Charlie's Everlasting Gobstopper Slime, Percy's Blue Cookie Slime, Narnia's Turkish Delight Slime and STEAMwarts Butter Beer Slime.  In addition to making two slimes a day, every camper will also receive a copy of our book Surprise at Blow Cart Beach:  A Challenge Island STEAM Adventure, which is filled with slimy science and treasures.
Minecraft: Modding Adventure

Learning to mod in Minecraft is a gateway to an adventure of creativity in computer skills that can be taken from video games to the real world!

Maybury Farm Summer Camp

Farm Camp is a four-day camp (Tues-Fri) filled with exciting experiences designed to engage and educate campers on all things farming! Held entirely outdoors, campers will not only totally unplug, but will get their hands dirty. They will enjoy learning about the care and function of animals while helping in the barn, and will learn about the cycle of planting, growing and harvesting while helping out in the Farm Garden. ​ ​

Although we provide a lot of traditional art instruction, we also encourage campers to take what they’ve learned and apply it to outside-the-box projects.
