If you are looking for a serious martial arts school look no further. HVA is a hidden gem on the west side of town. No gaudy uniforms or people pretending to be samurais. This place is a traditional Japanese dojo. The members train hard and it is a supportive community of good people. The teacher Park Sensei has years of experience. He is an unassuming person and patient teacher. But don't let that fool you. His technique is clean and his practice is strong. This dojo has a wonderful mix of women and men, experienced and beginners. Check out the website http://www.hv-aikido.com/ and come watch a class.

About Aikido for Children

Children’s classes focus on developing self-confidence, discipline, physical coordination and focus. Children enjoy challenging their minds and bodies and take pride in learning new skills. In addition, they require regular exercise to stay fit both physically and mentally. Our children’s classes focus on the following goals:

  • Physical and mental awareness

  • Flexibility and coordination

  • Self-esteem and self-confidence

  • Discipline and concentration

  • Cooperation and teamwork

Instruction is initially centered around physical exercises and games designed to improve motor skills and increase physical coordination. The children are then taught how to fall without hurting themselves. After students are comfortable with falling, we introduce basic martial arts principles of movement. In conjunction with these principles, we instruct them in the techniques of Aikido. Cooperation and teamwork are stressed as the more accomplished children assist the newer students in developing their skills.
