Everyone can get involved in the science summer fun at Sloan Museum!

I Don’t Know Why She Swallowed a Fly! June 27, 1:00 – 3:00pm @ Longway Planetarium Fee: $8 Explore food webs while listening to the story of the old lady who swallowed a fly. Investigate adaptations like camouflage that help keep animals from becoming lunch!

Victorian Tea Party June 29, 1:00 – 3:00pm @ Sloan Museum Fee: $8 Kids and their special adult can join us in the courtyard of Sloan Museum for tea, punch, and cookies along with crafts and hands-on activities. Activities will be moved indoors in the event of inclement weather.

Things Your Mother Wouldn’t Let You Do At Home July 5, 1:00 – 3:00pm @ Longway Planetarium Fee: $8 Fling peas with a catapult, shoot your straw wrapper at your friend and then use your straw to blow bubbles (and make some art), and mix up some mud to make mini-bricks.

Junior Vikings July 7, 1:00 – 4:00pm @ Sloan Museum Fee: $10 Learn all about these seafaring warriors while playing viking sports and games and making a viking musical instrument to take home. 

Air, Land, and Water July 11, 1:00 – 4:00pm @ Longway Planetarium Fee: $10 Explore Earth with these hands-on activities that investigate the atmosphere, geosphere, and hydrosphere. Make a landforms book while learning how the Earth’s surface is shaped. See how we get usable water from the ground, and see how air exerts pressure.

Junior Knights July 13, 1:00 – 4:00pm @ Sloan Museum Fee: $10 Step back in time to explore knights of the Middle Ages. Learn about dragons and mythical medieval beasts while creating your own armor

Dinosaurs and Fossils July 25, 1:00 – 3:00pm @ Longway Planetarium Fee: $8 Explore how objects are fossilized while making your own fossil model to take home. Play a dinosaur name game and design a model carnivore and herbivore while investigating dinosaur food webs.

Wizards July 27, 9:00am – 12:00pm @ Sloan Museum Fee: $10 Explore the world of wizardry, design your own wand, and create magical spells and potions.

Sink or Float July 29, 9:00 – 11:00am @ Longway Planetarium Fee: $8 Discover density! See if you can engineer a boat that floats while carrying cargo. Float chalk powder on top of water to make a beautiful work of art. See if you can layer colored liquids to make a rainbow in a cup.

We Dig Dirt August 2, 1:00 – 3:00pm @ Longway Planetarium Fee: $8 Soil or dirt? Discover the difference while you do a soil test with a sample you bring from your own yard or garden. Mix potting soil for a plant. Look for soil-making creatures and build a worm motel.

Brick by Brick August 4, 9:00am – 12:00pm @ Sloan Museum Fee: $10 Create something amazing using popular building toys, computer games, and crafting materials as your inspiration.
