Ages for which our activities are most appropriate:
The City of South Lyon is very fortunate to have a group of dedicated volunteers, intent on preserving the history of this area. It is the purpose of the Historical Society to collect, arrange and preserve historical materials, including books, pamphlets, maps, charts, manuscripts, papers, photos, copies of domestic and foreign records and archives, paintings, statuary and other objects and materials illustrative of and relating to the history of the South Lyon area, to procure and preserve narratives of the early pioneers, their exploits, perils, privations and achievements. Headquartered in the historic Witch's Hat Depot, the South Lyon Area Historical Society's purpose is to bring together those people interested in history, and especially the history of this community. The Society also coordinates the use of the historic buildings located in McHattie Park including tours of the Witch's Hat Depot and Freight House as well tours and use of the Washburn School for special projects.
