We are Kinvert.

I’m Keith, the founder. While getting my Engineering Degrees I thought a lot about what I wanted to do. My list was full of many tasks including helping with cancer, sustainable energy, protecting Earth from asteroids, etc. I realized I could only help with a couple of those things before I’d be gone and my impact would end there.

It became clear the biggest impact would be through teaching. So I tested the waters by teaching my nieces and nephews who always had questions for me like “Why is the Sun hot?”. I was teaching them the math behind projectile motion, which calculates how long it will take for an object to hit the ground when dropped. They were offered cake and ice cream by their mom, and all 3 of them ( I think 6, 8, and 10 at the time) asked if they could eat it later because they were learning math.

My jaw hit the floor. Imagine saying there is free cake in ice cream in the gym at a normal school. Would you have stayed in your seat when you were a kid?

So I started tutoring people from remedial highschool math to college students. They loved it, and I was happy that I helped a few people. The positive feedback sent me on the path to teaching 3 kids in the Fall. Sure enough, they loved the classes too.

So I decided to officially leave my career as a Freelance Engineer and Consultant, and pursue teaching. I ended up going from 3 students in Fall 15 to around 100 in Spring 16.

Things got busy fast as word of mouth spread. Here we are in the Summer of 2016, and we’re about to go do Maker Faire and make a bunch of kids excited about Engineering and changing the world.

What could be a better job?

If you’re looking for credentials, I have a Mechanical Engineering Degree and an Aerospace Engineering Degree. I was on a winning robotics team on the graduate level. I have many years of real world experience in Engineering. I live and breath STEM, and some of the things that make my students come back for more STEM week after week are the passion they see and my ability to help them solve complex problems while rarely telling them how.

Thanks to all the parents that made this possible. Your generosity has amazed me time and time again. More than once my wife and I have looked at eachother and said that we literally couldn’t do this without you.

I couldn’t be happier, and I’m so excited to see what your kids accomplish.

Thanks!
